Regents to Consider USM Four-Year Business Plan

and FY 2007 Budget Process at Meeting Friday;

Regents also to Honor Recipients of 2005 Staff Awards

ADELPHI, Md. (September 6, 2005) — The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will discuss a proposed framework for the development of a USM four-year business plan. Developed by William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland, the goal of the four-year budgeting approach is to achieve continuity and predictability in funding for the state's public higher-education system.

The board will discuss Kirwan's proposal at its meeting scheduled to begin at 9:30 am Friday, September 9, in rooms 2100 - 2104 at the University of Maryland University College Inn and Conference Center. The center is at the intersection of University Boulevard and Adelphi Road in Adelphi.

The proposed four-year business plan approach is based on USM's commitment to address enrollment growth and ensure quality, moderate tuition increases, diversify fiscal resources, and help the state meet critical workforce needs. It also incorporates comprehensive input from the presidents of the system's 13 institutions.

Also at Friday's meeting, the board will present the 2005 Regents' Staff Awards, honoring staff members who have made exceptional contributions to their institutional and greater communities. Here are the awards and honorees.
