USM Regents Committee on Education Policy Meets September 21

Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 16, 2011) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy at its next meeting will vote on a proposal to create a College of Health Professions at Coppin State University and will conduct discussions on several items, including a report on general education at Frostburg State University.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 Wednesday, September 21 in the Hilda and Michael Bogomolny Room (5th floor) of the Student Center at the University of Baltimore, 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue, Baltimore, Md.

Under the proposed structure for a College of Health Professions at Coppin State, it would house the School of Nursing and the School of Allied Health. The current dean of the School of Nursing would become dean of the new college.

Among the information items, the committee will hear from Frostburg State provost Steve Simpson about that institution's general education program. Many aspects of the program were praised in the university's 2006 Middle States decennial review.  The committee also will discuss ways to best refine and understand its annual agenda for the current academic year.
