USM Schools Among Nation's Best in Recent Rankings from Multiple Publications

Adelphi, Md. (Oct. 25, 2013) -- University System of Maryland (USM) schools once again have been recognized among the nation's top universities in recent rankings by multiple publications.

The U.S. News & World Report 2014 edition of America's Best Colleges released this month recognizes several USM institutions for academic excellence.

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) was ranked 21st among all U.S. national public universities. UMCP finished No. 62 in the overall rankings of national universities, private and public.

UMCP once again was named among the country's top entrepreneurship programs by The Princeton Review. In the 2014 list of the "Top 50 Schools for Entrepreneurship Programs," published in Entrepreneur magazine, UMCP ranks No. 15 for its undergraduate program. The university also ranks No. 16 for its graduate program, up eight spots from the 2013 rankings.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) ranked No. 1 among "up-and-coming" national universities for the fifth straight year. UMBC was ranked #6 on U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges Guide's list of schools with the "Best Undergraduate Teaching," with such universities as William and Mary, Berkeley, Princeton, and Brown. Additionally, the online publication Policymic.com named UMBC to the list of "12 Top Colleges Where Students Get the Best Bang for Their Buck."

Bowie State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore were rated in the top tier of America's historically black institutions by U.S. News & World Report. Bowie State and UMES ranked 25th and 29th, respectively.

U.S. News ranked Towson University 11th in its Top Public Schools-Regional Universities (North) category. Among the 182 public and private universities ranked in the North division of Best Regional Universities, Towson ranked 54th. Meanwhile, G.I. Jobs magazine recently named Towson among the most military friendly colleges and universities in the U.S. for the fifth straight year. The list recognizes the top 15 percent of institutions in the nation that best support the U.S. military service members, veterans and spouses as students. Meanwhile, Affordable Colleges listed Towson's English department No. 11 of the top 20 universities for return on investment. Finally, Washington Monthly recognized the university for its service to the greater community, affordability, and research innovation.

Among the 182 public and private universities ranked in the North division of Best Regional Universities, Salisbury University ranked 66th. Shortly before this ranking was announced, The Princeton Review named Salisbury University one of its Best 378 Colleges for the 15th consecutive year. Washington Monthly named Salisbury to its list of "America's Best Bang-For-The-Buck Colleges" (September/October 2013 edition).
