Kirwan Appoints Search Committee for Towson University President

USM Regent Dave Kinkopf to Chair

Adelphi, Md. (April 15, 2015) -- William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland (USM), today announced the appointment of the search and screening committee for the president of Towson University (TU), one of USM's 12 institutions.

Timothy J. L. Chandler has served as TU's interim president since December 2014, following President Maravene Loeschke's announcement of her retirement from the position due to health reasons. From August to December 2014, Chandler served as acting president during Loeschke's leave of absence.

Chairing the search and screening committee is Dave Kinkopf, a member of the USM Board of Regents and a partner with the Baltimore law firm of Gallagher Evelius & Jones, LLP. The other members of the committee are:

• Myrna Cardin, chair of TU Board of Visitors
• Don Fry, president and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee
• LaVern Chapman, program specialist, TU Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity
• Janese Daniels, associate professor and graduate director, TU College of Education
• Matt Durington, associate professor and director, TU International Studies Program
• Karen Eskow, professor and chairperson, TU Department of Family Studies and Community Development
• Tim Leonard, TU director of athletics
• Tom Maronick, professor, TU Department of Marketing
• Robyn Quick, professor and chairperson, TU Department of Theatre Arts
• Kelly Rogan, TU Graduate Student Association
• David Vanko, dean, TU Fisher College of Science & Mathematics
• Alex Vigo-Valentin, associate professor, TU Department of Kinesiology
• Brandon Wharton, TU Student Government Association

Leonard Raley, president and chief executive officer of the University System of Maryland Foundation and USM's vice chancellor for advancement, will serve as the chancellor's liaison to the committee. Raley also is a TU alumnus. Jennifer Stano, TU employment, classification, and compensation manager, will staff the committee. Katie Ryan, senior adviser to the chancellor, will assist the committee in managing the search process.

Chancellor Kirwan anticipates that the search and screening process will be completed within six months. The committee's work will conclude with its recommendation of finalists for consideration by the chancellor and the Board of Regents. The board makes the final selection.
