USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development to Meet June 11

Adelphi, Md. (June 9, 2015) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Finance and the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will hold separate meetings on Thursday, June 11 at the University of Baltimore.

Both meetings will be held in the Hilda and Michael Bogomolny Room (5th floor) of the Student Center at the University of Baltimore (UB), located at 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue, Baltimore, MD.

 At 10 a.m., the Committee on Finance will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would consider items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items are property acquisitions in the City of Baltimore; the awarding of a contract for the provision of serial subscriptions; and the awarding of a contract for facilities and equipment maintenance.

The public session is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., with a vote on the fiscal year (FY) 2017 capital budget request and FY 2017-2021 capital improvement program. Other action items before the committee include the FY 2016 system-funded construction program request and a bond resolution for auxiliary facility and tuition revenue bonds. The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet in public session at 12:20 p.m. The committee will hear information items on a featured start-up (VisiSonics Corporation); the Maryland Economic Development and Business Climate Commission; University of Maryland Innovation District; and new initiatives through UM Ventures at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). VisiSonics Corporation, founded by UMCP Department of Computer Science faculty members and experienced entrepreneurs, has developed technology capable of creating a realistic presentation of sound 3-D space.
