USM Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy and Student Life Meets September 20

Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 16, 2016) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy and Student Life at its next meeting will vote on new academic program proposals and hear several information reports, including an accreditation update on Frostburg State University and a report on intercollegiate athletics.

The committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20 in the Chesapeake Ballroom of the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Inn and Conference Center, 3501 University Blvd. East, Adelphi, MD.

The academic programs under consideration are a B.S. in urban and regional planning at Salisbury University and M.S. degrees in cyber security law and homeland security/crisis management law at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

The Board of Regents Policy on Intercollegiate Athletics (V-2.10) requires institutions to submit reports to inform the board of the academic and financial status of the athletic programs. In addition to providing status updates to the board's committees on finance and education policy and student life, the board's workgroup on intercollegiate athletics (ICA) studies a wide range of ICA issues.

The committee will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items that fall under closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act. The reasons for closing, all pertaining to the ICA report, are to maintain confidentiality of student academic records and personnel matters involving specific employees.
