USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development Meet Sept. 7

Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 5, 2017) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Finance will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7. The meeting will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Columbus Center. The Center is located at 701 E. Pratt Street in Baltimore, Md.

The committee will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration.

Those items are an acquisition of property in Baltimore County; proposed fiscal-year 2019 operating budget submission and potential adjustments; a consultation with counsel regarding a proposed separation plan; and consideration of investment of the USM Common Trust Fund.

The committee is scheduled to reconvene in public session at 11:30 a.m. The committee will vote on a state ethics law review for a business entity at the University of Maryland, College Park and a proposed voluntary separation program at Coppin State University. The committee will hear information items on the tuition initiative between Coppin State and Baltimore City Community College. The agenda and supporting materials can be accessed here.

At 12 noon, the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room. The featured immunotherapy start-up, Living Pharma Inc., was one of the first investments of UMB's New Ventures Initiative and is the first to execute a successful exit. The committee also will be briefed on Towson University's recent award of a $1 million STEM grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).  Additionally, following the hiring of a new director, the committee will be advised of the status of the USM Momentum Fund.  Finally, the Committee will be updated on selected USM economic development initiatives.  The agenda and supporting materials are here.
