USM Regent Committees on Organization and Compensation, Economic Development Meet November 9

Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 7, 2017) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9. The meeting will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Columbus Center. The Center is located at 701 E. Pratt Street in Baltimore, Md.

The public session includes action items on a charter for the committee and an annual calendar for administration of executive-level performance assessment and compensation. Information items include a presentation on goal-setting framework and a review of presidential search guidelines. The final public session item is a vote on whether to reconvene in closed session.
In closed session, the committee would discuss items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items are collective bargaining negotiations at two USM institutions. The agenda and supporting materials are here.

At 10:30 a.m. in the same location, the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would discuss an item specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration, pertaining to the investment of public funds.

The public session is scheduled to resume at 10:50 a.m. MF Fire, a fire technology company leveraging advanced combustion science to engineer low-emission fire products, is the featured start-up. The company licensed technology from the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute at the University of Maryland, College Park. In addition, the committee will consider for approval proposed revisions to the USM Policy on Intellectual Property (IV–3.20) and a draft resolution to both study the threat and recommend appropriate action to guard against patent trolling by external parties of USM intellectual property assets.

The committee will also be briefed on the USM’s consolidated data prepared in response to the RFP for a second headquarters for Amazon.com.Inc. Finally, the committee will hear an update on selected USM economic development initiatives. The full agenda and supporting materials are here.
