USM Schools Named Among Nation's Best in Numerous Fall 2017 Rankings

Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 28, 2017) – New and impressive rankings for University System of Maryland (USM) schools continue to emerge from multiple national publications during the fall 2017 semester.

Shortly before the Thanksgiving holiday, The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine named the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) to the No. 8 position in its annual survey of 25 best undergraduate schools for entrepreneurship studies.

The recent 2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities ranked UMCP No. 50 among 1,250 universities in a new ranking out during the final week of October 2017. The new ranking is based on academic research performance and global reputation. UMCP’s programs in geosciences and physics both scored in the Top 20.

The Military Times on Nov. 20 named University of Maryland University College (UMUC) No. 1 in its annual survey of the best online and non-traditional universities for military personnel and veterans. The ranking is part of the publication’s “Military Times: Best Colleges 2018” list.

The Center for World University Rankings in late October named the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) as one of the top universities in the world for 2017. UMBC landed in the top 1.9% of higher education institutions worldwide.

Also in fall 2017, the Wall Street Journal named UMCP No. 82 in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings list. As noted by the publication, these rankings “emphasize how well a college will prepare students for life after graduation” by taking measurements on 15 factors across the four categories of student outcomes, academic resources, student engagement, and diversity of students/staff.

Earlier in the fall semester, the U.S. News & World Report 2018 edition of America's Best Colleges released this month recognizes several USM institutions for academic excellence. UMCP ranked among the top 25 in national public universities. The publication named UMBC the 7th-most innovative school.

Towson, Salisbury, and Frostburg universities all ranked in the top 40 among Regional Universities North.

Finally, the publication ranked USM’s three historically black institutions—University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Bowie State, and Coppin State in the top 50 of historically black colleges and universities.
