Finance Committee Considers Room and Board Charges, Projected Enrollment Increases at March 16 Meeting

ADELPHI, Md. (March 13, 2006) – The Committee on Finance of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will consider proposed changes to room and board charges and 10-year enrollment projections at its next meeting Thursday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the open area on the 7th floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Parking is available in the Walker Avenue Garage, located just off of Hilltop Circle on Walker Avenue.

At most USM institutions, the proposed increase in the annual dormitory charge is less than five percent. The percent increases for board range from no increase at Bowie State University to 4.5 percent at Frostburg State University.

Committee members will also review USM enrollment projections for the next 10 years. Highlights include:

In other business, the committee will review a report on system-wide procurement contracts of $1 million to $5 million awarded during FY 2005; consider a request to construct an addition to the Kim Engineering Building at University of Maryland, College Park (partially funded through a gift received from the Robert E. Fischell family), and a renovation of the student development center at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Also on the agenda is a report summarizing construction and non-construction contracts awarded to state certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) firms in FY 2005. The report shows system institutions awarded more than over $81 million to MBE firms during that time, a 1.7 percent increase in total dollars over FY 2004.
