Minority Achievement, Financial Aid on Regents' Education Policy Committee Agenda, June 5

ADELPHI, Md. (May 30, 2007) - Reports on minority achievement, financial aid, and retention and graduation are among the items on the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the Committee on Education Policy of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2007, in the open area on the 7^th Floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), 1000 Hilltop Circle, Catonsville, MD.

The committee's discussion items include:

K-16 Update;
Annual Report on Intercollegiate Athletics;
Minority Achievement Status Report;
Retention and Graduation Rates of First-Time, Full-Time Degree-Seeking Undergraduates;
Report on Financial Aid, 2000-2005;
Report on Program Actions Delegated to the Chancellor, 2006-2007.

Among the action items before the committee is a proposal to reorganize the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) College of Health and Human Performance as the School of Public Health, in accordance with plans previously endorsed by the Board of Regents. In addition, the committee will consider eight new academic program proposals:

Master of Health Administration (UMCP);
Ph.D. in Health Services (UMCP);
Ph.D. in Epidemiology (UMCP);
Ph.D. in Maternal and Child Health (UMCP)
M.S. in Molecular Medicine (University of Maryland, Baltimore);
B.A. in Physics Education (UMBC);
M.S. in Systems Engineering (UMBC);
B.S. in Engineering (University of Maryland Eastern Shore).
