USM Regents Committees on Education Policy, Effectiveness and Efficiency Meet March 16

Adelphi, Md. (March 10, 2011) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy and the newly formed Committee on Effectiveness and Efficiency will meet Wednesday, March 16 in the Margaret Brent Room (2nd floor) of the Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

The public meeting for the Committee on Education Policy will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The committee will vote on a proposal to modify two programs at University of Maryland University College, the existing bachelor's of technical professional studies (BTPS) in biotechnology and BTPS in laboratory management. The modification would establish a bachelor of science for both programs.

The committee also will hear information items regarding several system-wide reports, including USM enrollment projections for 2011-2020 and latest levels of extramural funding awards supporting initiatives in research, education, or service during fiscal year 2010. The public session for the Committee on Effectiveness and Efficiency will begin at 12:30 p.m. This committee, chaired by Regent Thomas G. Slater, was established upon a February 2011 vote of the Board of Regents.

The committee will vote on a proposed revision of the bylaws of USM Board of Regents. It also will hear a discussion item on processes to determine future USM dashboard indicators, the data on retention rates, faculty workloads, license income and numerous other measures of institutional activity.
