USM Regents Committee on Education Policy Meets June 1

Adelphi, Md. (May 26, 2011) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy at its next meeting will hear annual reports from institutions' athletic departments, vote on several new academic programs, and discuss a report on undergraduate retention and graduation rates.

The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 in Room 767 of the Albin O. Kuhn Library on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

Eight institutions will present their annual reports on intercollegiate athletics. The new academic programs under consideration are a B.A. /B.S. in family science at Towson University, a B.S. in atmospheric and oceanic science at the University of Maryland, College Park, and three programs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (B.S., biochemistry, master's in chemistry, and master of medical science in physician assistant studies.)

The committee also will act on Salisbury University's request for a permanent exception to the Board of Regents policy on undergraduate admissions through its test-optional program and the creation of the School of Emerging Technologies at Towson University.
