Education Policy Committee, Full Board of Regents to Meet July 12, 13 at UMCES

The Committee on Education Policy of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents and the full Board of Regents will meet in public session on consecutive days, on Thursday, July 12 and Friday, July 13, respectively, at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science's Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge, MD. The Education Policy session will begin at 5 p.m., while the full board session will start at 1 p.m.  

The Education Policy Committee will consider several agenda items, including:

• Process for addressing part-time and full-time non-tenure track instructional faculty issues
• New program proposals, including a bachelor of science in nursing and a master of business administration from Bowie State University; a bachelor of science in urban arts production and a master of science in reading from Coppin State College; a bachelor of science in finance, a bachelor of science in marketing, a bachelor of science in management, and a bachelor of science in exercise science, all from Salisbury University; a certificate in advanced study in reading education and a certificate in advanced study in organizational change from Towson University; a master of science in interaction design and information architecture and a master of science in health systems management from the University of Baltimore; a bachelor of arts in music, a bachelor of arts in dance, and a combined bachelor of arts in environmental studies/bachelor of science in environmental science, all from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; and a master of historic preservation from the University of Maryland, College Park

Among the agenda items for the full Board of Regents meeting on July 13 are the following:

• Introduction of the Fiscal Year 2002 Student Regent Saleem A. Rasheed from Bowie State University
• FY 2002 election of officers
• Adoption of definitions from the recently-passed legislation on collective bargaining
• Public/private partnership program for student housing at Bowie State University
• Preliminary discussion of FY 2003 operating budget, tuition, and mandatory fees        
• USM policy on intellectual property
• Shared governance accountability plans
• Institutional reports on the technology fluency of graduates
• Reports on academic advising at USM institutions
• Revision of USM policy on the USM Student Council (USMSC) and the USMSC Constitution, pertaining to the process and timeline for the selection of student Regent nominees
• Information technology polices
• USM capital campaign progress report ending May 21
• Resolution of appreciation for outgoing Student Regent Kevin Oxendine
