Finance Committee to Consider USM Real Property Management

Initiative; Also will vote on BSU's Facilities Master Plan

 

ADELPHI, Md (October 12, 2004) — The Finance Committee of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will consider a recommendation for new procedures to manage the system's real property assets more effectively. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 pm Thursday, October 14. It will be in the atrium of the USM office (Elkins Building) at 3300 Metzerott Road, Adelphi.

USM Chancellor William E. Kirwan is recommending the following as part of the property asset management initiative:

In addition, the Finance Committee will consider a request for FY 2006 funding of high-priority items not included in the system's Current Services Budget allocation. Called the Separate List, these items total $45 million, and include funding for enrollment and workforce development initiatives, faculty and staff quality improvement, research institutes, regional centers (Universities at Shady Grove and the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown), and other priorities.

Also at Thursday's meeting, the committee will consider approval of Bowie State University's 2002-2012 Facilities Master Plan. The plan reflects the institution's ongoing expansion beyond its traditional teacher education role to enhance and/or develop programs in nursing, business, information technology, and bioscience. It also addresses the need to accommodate a growing student population.
