Teri Hollander Appointed

Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

ADELPHI, Md. (April 29, 2005) — Teri Hollander has been appointed associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University System of Maryland (USM). Her appointment is effective May 1.

The USM Office of Academic Affairs provides leadership in academic planning and accountability, academic policy, faculty and student affairs, research policy, articulation, and the university system's role in the statewide K-16 initiative. As an associate vice chancellor, Hollander will coordinate the office's review and approval of new academic programs submitted by USM institutions to the system's Board of Regents and the Maryland Higher Education Commission. In addition, she will be responsible for reviewing institutional requests for curricular changes and institutional reports on the quality of existing academic programs.

Hollander also will be the system's primary liaison to the Education Policy Committee of the Maryland Higher Education Commission, participating in the development of statewide academic policies.

"She has more than 25 years of higher education experience and has been successful as a manager of academic issues and of people. Teri is respected both internally and externally for her sage advice and caring attitude. I am confident that her contributions as associate vice chancellor will help to advance the University System of Maryland in the years ahead."

Currently, Hollander is assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs and director of articulation for USM. She has served in that position since 1998. Her previous positions include USM associate director of articulation, director of admissions at Winthrop University in South Carolina, and associate director of admissions at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Hollander has an M.A. in education policy, planning and administration and a B.A. in criminology, both from the University of Maryland, College Park.

As associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, Hollander succeeds Gertrude Eaton who served in the position for 19 years. Eaton retired from the position April 1.
