USM Board of Regents to Meet September 18, Present Regents Staff Awards

Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 15, 2015) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will honor recipients of the Board of Regents Staff Awards. The board also will vote on a policy to more easily facilitate technology commercialization efforts deemed to be high-economic impact development activities.

The public session will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, September 18 on the Concourse of the Physical Education Complex at Coppin State University, 2500 W. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD.

The Staff Awards recognize staff members who have made exceptional contributions to their organizations, students and the university community. Recipients will be honored by the board at a private awards breakfast, and then acknowledged shortly after the start of the public session.

The policy on high economic impact development relates to legislation enacted in 2012 that established a structure within existing procurement practices to encourage technology commercialization activities that are expected to have a significant economic impact on the institution, USM or the state.  The proposed policy establishes a process through which institutions may request certification from the chancellor to be designated as "high impact economic development activities" (HIEDA).

Councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students will present reports.

At the end of the public agenda, the board will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss personnel, legal, public investment, development of operating budget, and collective bargaining issues, matters that fall under closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act. The agenda and supporting materials are here.

Parking is available in the adjacent Lot H to the Physical Education Complex. For driving directions to Coppin State University and a campus map, click here.
