USM Regents Committees on Organization and Compensation, Finance Meet October 3; Special Meeting of Board of Regents to Follow via Conference Call

Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 29, 2017) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The meeting will take place on the 14th floor of the Saratoga Office Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), in Conference Room 03-117. The building is located at 220 North Arch Street in Baltimore, Md.

The committee will meet in public session and hear an information item regarding data on tenure by institution. The committee also will vote on a proposed work plan connected to the report on executive compensation and governance. As a final public agenda item, the committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would discuss items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration.

Those items are an update on ongoing collective bargaining negotiations and a five-year performance review of a USM president. The agenda and supporting materials are here.

The Committee on Finance will meet at 10:30 a.m. The committee will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items are an acquisition of property in the City of Baltimore; awarding of two new energy performance contracts; and consideration of the investment of the USM Common Trust Fund.

The committee is scheduled to reconvene in public session at 11:15 a.m. The committee will vote on a resolution to provide a waiver of the 12-month requirement for Maryland residency for tuition purposes for any Amazon.com Inc. employee (and their spouses and children) who move(s) to Maryland to work for the company, should Amazon's second headquarters be established in the state. Should the Committee on Finance approve the tuition-waiver proposal connected to Amazon, there will be a special meeting of the full board by conference call at 5 p.m. at which the full board will vote on the measure.
