USM Board of Regents Holds Annual Retreat November 29

Gov. Hogan Scheduled to Offer a 4 p.m. Address to Conclude Meeting

Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 27, 2017) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will hold its annual retreat on Wednesday, November 29. The retreat will be held at The Hotel at the University of Maryland.

The board retreat is a day of discussion sessions designed to address ongoing challenges and opportunities in the higher education landscape, both nationally and in Maryland.

The public meeting begins at 8:45 a.m. with a discussion regarding benefits and challenges in intercollegiate athletics, led by former regent and NBA player C. Thomas McMillen. A Rhodes Scholar, McMillen was a 1974 University of Maryland graduate and basketball standout who later was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Other information sessions before a midday break are an ethics symposium (led by Michael Lord of the Maryland State Ethics Commission) and an overview of USM finances (moderated by USM Chancellor Robert L. Caret and Vice Chancellor Joseph Vivona).

The retreat will include an update on executive compensation and goal-setting practices from Sibson Consulting and a presentation from Doron Ezickson, regional director for the Washington, D.C. chapter of the Anti-Defamation League.

At 4 p.m., Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is scheduled to deliver an address to attendees.
