USM Regents Meet Friday, December 1: Agenda Includes BRAC Waivers, SAT-Optional Admissions Study

ADELPHI, Md. (November 27, 2006) - The waiver of residency requirements for relocating defense contractor employees under BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure Commission) 2005 and a pilot study of SAT-optional admissions are among the topics to be addressed at the upcoming meeting of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents. The public meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2006. It will be held in the 2nd Floor Conference Room (Room 2129) of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute/Center for Advanced Research in Biology II (UMBI/CARB II), 9600 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting will open with a report from Chancellor William E. Kirwan and a presentation of USM's annual dashboard indicators, used to benchmark and to assess progress across the system's 13 institutions.

At its October 27th meeting, the board approved a similar waiver for civilian employees of the U.S. Armed Forces relocating under BRAC. The waiver allows these employees and their families to qualify for in-state tuition rates without the 12-month residency requirement.
