USM Regents Committee on Education Policy and Student Life Meets January 15

Baltimore, Md. (Jan. 11, 2019) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy and Student Life at its next meeting will vote on several new academic program proposals and hear a report on extramural funding for fiscal year 2018.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, on the fourth floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

The degree program proposals include four at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP): B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics; B.S. in Embedded Systems and the Internet of Things; B.S. in Human Development; B.S. in Neuroscience. New degree programs also are being proposed by UMBC, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and Frostburg State University.

Among several information items, the committee will hear an update on the Kirwan Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education and results of the new program 5-year enrollment review.

The final public session item is a vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.  The reason for closing is to maintain confidentiality of personnel-related and personal information of candidates for faculty awards and honorary degrees.
