Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on November 19

Baltimore, Md. (Nov. 15, 2019) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Tuesday, November 19. The meetings will take place on the 14th floor of the Saratoga Office Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The building is located at 220 North Arch Street in Baltimore, Md.

The Committee on Organization and Governance will meet at 8:30 a.m. The committee will discuss a draft of Board of Regents Policy VI-1.00—Policy on Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity and the committee’s overall charge. The committee will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The reasons for closing are to maintain confidentiality regarding collective bargaining negotiations and specific employment agreements.

The Committee on Finance will meet at 10:30 a.m. and vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss an item specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The reason for closing is to maintain confidentiality of a discussion of a proposed contract before board approval and the awarding of a new contract.

The public session is scheduled to resume at 10:45 a.m. The committee will vote on several action items, including a real property acquisition and development of a new housing complex at Salisbury University. The committee also will vote on increases in funding authorization for the Bowie State University Thurgood Marshall Library HVAC Renovation Project and new residence halls and the North Campus Dining Hall Replacement at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). The committee also will vote on the UMCP Foundation, Inc. Right of Entry for Construction of the Basketball Performance Center. There will be information items on the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) 2018 Facilities Master Plan Report and replacement of videoboards and associated obsolete control equipment at UMCP’s Maryland Stadium.

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at 12:30 p.m. Aimee Martin, CEO of featured start-up BondTrue, LLC, will discuss the company’s work and the patented BondTrue device, which automates the process of surgical incisions and closures. USM Vice Chancellor Tom Sadowski will provide an update on the USM Momentum Fund, strategic marketing efforts and economic impact studies under development, while Associate Vice Chancellor and William E. Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation Director MJ Bishop will discuss the Greater Washington Partnership-Capital CoLAB Project.
