USM Board of Regents to Hold Special Meeting 5 p.m. Today via Conference Call
Baltimore, Md. (March 19, 2020) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. today via conference call. In public session, the board will vote on an item regarding temporary delegation of authority to the chancellor to amend board policy as needed to respond to COVID-19.
The board will vote on whether to reconvene its meeting via conference call in closed session. The reasons for closing are to consult with legal counsel to obtain advice and to discuss with staff legal liability issues associated with various aspects of COVID-19 response; discuss matters related to collective bargaining; and discuss an administrative matter regarding strategic communication with internal and external stakeholders.
The Regents will then reconvene in public session, and USM Chancellor Jay A. Perman will update the board on USM COVID-19 response, followed by an update from USM Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Life Joann Boughman on USM preparedness for distance learning.
