Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on September 10

Baltimore, Md. (Sept. 9, 2020) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, Sept. 10. Additionally, the Board of Regents will conduct a brief, special meeting.

The Committee on Governance & Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. Access to the meeting is via the following dial-in information:

The committee will vote on a review of the committee charter and discuss a policy review timeline/workplan.

The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The reasons for closing are to maintain confidentiality regarding collective bargaining negotiations and a specific employment agreement, and to handle administrative matters regarding an educational session for regents on collective bargaining and the scheduling of multi-year reviews of USM presidents.

The committee will hear and vote on a presentation regarding USM enrollment projections, for fiscal years (FY) 2021-2030. Other action items include a proposal to temporarily suspend the self-support requirement for intercollegiate athletic programs during the COVID-19 pandemic and an increase in project authorization for the School of Nursing Student Services renovation and window replacement at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would consider the investment of the USM Common Trust Fund; development of the proposed FY 2022 operating budget submission (and potential adjustments); and awarding of new contracts related to enterprise resource planning (ERP) and IT networking hardware and software maintenance.

The featured innovator panel will have three of the recent USM COVID App Challenge winners, with IBM industry partner and judge John Joaquin. There will be a vote on the committee’s charter, and USM Vice Chancellor for Economic Development J. Thomas Sadowski will update the committee on several initiatives, including the USM COVID Research & Innovation Task Force and the Maryland Momentum Fund.
