USM Board of Regents Meets on Friday, September 10
Baltimore, Md. (Sept. 8, 2021) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.The board will convene at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center (General Vessey Ballroom) at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). Seating in the meeting room will be limited to allow for social distancing, but livestreaming will be available in an adjacent area. Attendees must wear masks during the meeting to comply with the Prince George’s County mandate requiring masks be worn in all indoor public venues. The board will hold an education forum, “HBCUs: Now and on the Horizon.” The presenter is Dr. Leonard Haynes, a former senior director with the Department of Education and former executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and a past HBCU president. Widely recognized for his work in education, he has counseled numerous organizations, including the Ford Foundation and the Merck Corporation.
The board will recognize the seven winners of the 2021 Regents Staff Awards. In addition to voting on several action items approved at prior committee meetings, the regents also will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff, and students.
Members of the public who wish to comment during the public comment period of the meeting are asked to email their comments in advance of the meeting to the following email address: regents@usmd.edu.
The final item of the public session will be a board vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.
Exempted items include various personnel matters, acquisition of real property, a proposal to name a building and program after an individual, and development of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 operating budget.
