Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 12, 2021) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will hold its annual retreat on Thursday, October 14. The retreat will be held at The Hotel at the University of Maryland, in the Crossland Ballroom.

The hotel address is 7777 Baltimore Avenue, College Park, MD. Details on parking and transportation are here.

The board retreat is a day of discussion sessions designed to address ongoing challenges and opportunities in the higher education landscape, both nationally and in Maryland.

The public meeting begins at 8:45 a.m. with a discussion, “Duty of Care,” led by Thomas Hyatt, Specialist and Senior Fellow with Association of Governing Boards (AGB) Consulting. Regent Louis Pope and officials with Huron Consulting will give an update on enterprise risk management. There will be updates from senior USM leaders regarding a USM crisis management plan and COVID-19.

At noon, the board will convene a brief, special meeting and vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The items are approval of a search committee for a USM president search and consideration of a request to name a space after an individual.

During the afternoon session, USM Chancellor Jay A. Perman will moderate a conversation regarding diversity in the STEM disciplines. It is anticipated the retreat will conclude at approximately 3 p.m.
