Two USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on December 2

Baltimore, Md. (Dec. 1, 2021) – Two committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, Dec. 2.

The Committee on Finance will meet at 10:30 a.m. Access to the meeting is via the following dial-in information:

The committee will vote on the Towson University facilities master plan. The committee also will vote on three agenda items regarding the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB): increased authorization for exterior upgrades to the Bressler Research Building; extension of an existing chilled water loop to two university-owned buildings; and a voluntary separation program for certain faculty. The committee will vote on a review of its charge and an amended nonexempt salary structure. Finally, the committee will hear two information items.

The committee will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. These items are consideration of the development of the proposed fiscal year 2023 operating budget submission (and potential adjustments to the submission) and a housekeeping contract.

Victor Ehienulo, CEO of Plugged, will give a presentation regarding his startup. Ehienulo participated in the most recent cohort of Towson University’s (TU) StarTUp Accelerator. Plugged is a diversity recruiting startup that shares employment opportunities to diverse pools of candidates through a web app, mobile, messaging, and interview platform. Patrick McQuown, Executive Director for Entrepreneurship at TU, will provide an update on economic development there. He will discuss the StarTUp Accelerator, which recently finished its second cohort. Two “quickfire” oral presentations will show different types of workforce development programs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The committee also will hear updates regarding the Maryland Momentum Fund and updates on USM Office of Economic Development activity from the USM’s Venture Development Director Lindsay Ryan.
