Board of Regents Takes Up New Degree Programs, Capital Improvement Projects, February 16

ADELPHI, Md. (February 12, 2007) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will convene its first full meeting of 2007 on Friday, February 16, beginning at 9:30 a.m. It will be held in Room 2202 of the Thurgood Marshall Library, Bowie State University (BSU), Bowie, MD.

Among the action items on the regents' agenda are new degree programs at Towson University (TU), University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and University of Maryland University College (UMUC), as well as two capital improvement projects at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). The board will also hear reports from the university system presidents, faculty, staff, and student councils.

In addition, the board will consider recommendations resulting from the Report on the Task Force on the Education of Maryland's African-American Males presented at the January 24 board educational policy committee meeting. The committee has proposed referring the recommendations for which USM shares responsibility to the board workgroup on HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) funding and minority student achievement.

The meeting will conclude with reports from the board's audit and institutional assessment committee, capital campaign workgroup, and effectiveness and efficiency workgroup.
