USM Regents Education Policy Committee Meets March 24

Adelphi, Md. (March 19, 2010) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy at its next meeting will take action on new academic program proposals and hear several  information items, including a report on USM institutions’ enrollment projections for 2010-2019.

The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24 in the Margaret Brent Room (2nd floor) of the Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

The new academic program proposals under consideration include three degree programs at Coppin State University: Doctor of Nurse Practice; B.S. in Non-Profit Leadership; and M.Ed. in Contemporary Education Leadership.

The other academic program proposals under consideration are:

          M.S. in Cybersecurity Policy, University of Maryland University College;

          B.S. in Rehabilitation Psychology, University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.

The committee also will vote on a proposal to create a new College of Public Affairs at the University of Baltimore. The college would consist of academic programs currently taught by faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts. The proposed new college would house graduate programs in public administration and negotiation and conflict management; graduate and undergraduate programs in criminal justice, health systems management and human services administration; and undergraduate programs in public policy and international studies.

The information item regarding enrollment projections continues a practice of annual updates from USM institutions on their enrollment projections for a 10-year period. The overall projected headcount growth (undergraduate and graduate students) for the 10-year period is 19 percent, an increase from 148,676 to 176,482 students.

Other information items include a discussion of financial literacy education at UMCP and USM campus crime reports for 2008.
