USM Chancellor William E. Kirwan Appoints Search Committee for President of Bowie State University Judge William D. Missouri, Prince George's County, is Chair
Adelphi, MD (January 26, 2006) – William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland (USM), announced today his appointment of the search committee for the president of Bowie State University (BSU). BSU is one of the university system's 13 institutions.
The chair of the search committee is the Honorable William D. Missouri, administrative judge, Circuit Court of Prince George's County.
- Beverly Anderson, former chair of the Prince George's Community College Board of Trustees and former higher education administrator
- Latanya Brown, assistant professor of accounting, BSU
- Cynthia Coleman, chair of the BSU staff council and associate director of the library
- Reggie Daniel, former president of Scientific & Engineering Solutions, Inc.
- Jarrod Dockett, president of the BSU Student Government Association
- McKinley Hayward, president of the BSU National Alumni Association
- Gregory Hudson, retention coordinator, BSU School of Professional Studies
- Barbara Jackson, assistant professor of education, BSU
- Joan Langdon, professor of computer science, BSU
- M.A. "Mike" Little, a member of the BSU Foundation Board
- Frederick Mills, associate professor of history/government, BSU
- Joan Pitkin, former delegate, Maryland General Assembly
- Sherman Ragland, president and CEO of Tradewinds International
- William Ridley, president of the BSU Graduate Student Association.
Orlan Johnson, treasurer of the USM Board of Regents and of counsel with the law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, is the search committee's liaison to the board. John Wolfe, a USM associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, is the liaison to the Office of the Chancellor.
BSU President Calvin W. Lowe announced in August that he would leave his position at the end of the 2005-06 academic year. Lowe has been president of Bowie State since May 1, 2000. Under his leadership, Bowie State University has experienced a significant enrollment increase, enhanced the quality of its academic programs and its physical plant, and built one of the world's fastest supercomputers.
