USM Board of Regents Meets February 11

Adelphi, Md. (Feb. 8, 2011) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will vote on whether to approve individual implementation plans developed by USM institutions in response to the new USM Strategic Plan.

The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the Rockville and Potomac rooms (Building II) at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD.

On Dec. 3, 2010, the board approved the USM Strategic Plan 2010-2020. Since that date, each institution has completed an implementation plan to align its priorities with the system-wide Strategic Plan.

The board also will vote on proposed academic programs at several institutions and missions and goals statements drafted by all USM institutions and regional centers. The statements will be submitted to the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) for its review. Later in 2011, the full Board of Regents will consider the statements for final adoption. All statements will require MHEC approval.

Reports will be presented from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students. After the public meeting, the board will meet in executive session. The agenda and background information are available at http://www.usmd.edu/regents/agendas/fb021111.html.

Sign language interpreters and/or appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call 301.445.1901 (voice) or 301.314.7683 (TTY/ITT) to make special arrangements. Parking is available in Parking Lot 2, across from Building I on Gudelsky Drive. For more detailed information about adjacent parking areas and directions to USG, see http://www.shadygrove.umd.edu/about/visit/directions.

As previously announced, due to winter weather complications last month the next Board of Regents Committee on Education Policy meeting will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at USG.  The agenda and supporting materials can be found at http://www.usmd.edu/regents/agendas/ed021011.html.
