USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development Meet June 14

Adelphi, Md. (June 9, 2011) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Finance at its next meeting will vote on several items, including the fiscal year (FY) 2013 capital budget request and the FY 2012 schedule of tuition and mandatory fees.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14 in the Hilda and Michael Bogomolny Room (5th floor) of the Student Center at the University of Baltimore, 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue, Baltimore, Md. The committee immediately will vote during open session to reconvene in closed, executive session. The public meeting is scheduled to resume at 10:30 a.m.

The finance committee's capital budget recommendations will be presented to the full board at its meeting scheduled for June 17. Last month, the committee held its annual capital budget workshop to review and discuss strategic goals and priorities for the system's capital improvement program. The presidents of the system's 12 institutions participated.

The FY 2012 in-state undergraduate full-time and part-time tuition rates, along with summer school rates, are proposed to increase by no more than 3 percent for most institutions.

Proposed out-of-state undergraduate full-time rates range from a 5 percent increase at the University of Maryland, College Park to no increase at Frostburg State University and University of Maryland University College and a decrease of $4,600 at Coppin State University.

The committee also will vote on the FY 2012 system-funded construction program in the amount of $104.3 million and hear an informational presentation of the facilities master plan for the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

After the meeting of the Committee on Finance, the recently formed Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will convene in public session at 2 p.m. in Room 301 of the University of Baltimore Student Center. The committee will discuss several information items, including the development of plans to strengthen technology transfer and commercialization throughout the USM. The committee will meet in closed session after the public meeting.
