Maryland’s oldest historically black institution (HBI), Bowie State University is recognized as a national leader
among HBIs in graduating students in technology. Bowie State is one of the four regional comprehensive universities
in the University System of Maryland. It has grown to a campus of more than one million square feet of
academic and auxiliary buildings, located on 338.5 acres in Bowie.The university comprises four schools: School of Arts and Sciences; School of Education;
School of Professional Studies; and School of Business. Bowie State offers a doctoral program in educational
leadership; 11 master’s degree programs; and 25 undergraduate majors in disciplines as diverse as computer
science, education, human resource development, communications, and nursing.
