USM Regents Scholarships
The prestigious Regents Scholars Program has been created to provide outstanding students with the financial freedom to pursue academic studies at one of the nation's finest university systems. Consideration is given to exceptional students, both first-year and transfer students, applying for admission to full-time undergraduate programs at one or more of the eleven University System of Maryland institutions. Substantial endowments have been established by individuals and corporations in order to cover the entire estimated costs of tuition, fees, room, board, books, and academic materials.
Additional limited scholarship opportunities are available through the
Maryland Prepaid College Trust
The Maryland Prepaid College Trust was created by Governor Parris N. Glendening and the Maryland General Assembly to provide parents, grandparents, and others with an affordable way to prepay for a child's future college education based in part on today's tuition and mandatory fees costs at Maryland's public colleges.
The prepaid program offers a variety of tuition plans, payment options and significant tax benefits including a tax deduction. For Maryland residents, there are not state income tax earnings when the child goes to college and the contract owner can deduct up to $2,500 per year up to the full amount of their contribution. The purchaser can also multiply the deduction by the number of contracts they have purchased. The program is open to all children in the ninth grade or younger.
Benefits of the program can be used at any of Maryland's 2- or 4-year public colleges and universities. The benefits can also be applied towards tuition and mandatory fees at public or private colleges and universities throughout the United States.
