Board to Vote on Several Academic Programs, Recognize UMB School of Law Faculty Member as Regents Professor

Adelphi, Md. (Oct. 19, 2016) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet in public session at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21. The meeting will include votes on several academic programs and an information item regarding a Regents Professorship. The meeting will take place in the President's Board Room, 14th floor of the Saratoga Office Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The building is located at 220 North Arch Street in Baltimore, Md.

The academic programs under consideration are a B.S. in urban and regional planning at Salisbury University and M.S. degrees in cyber security law and homeland security/crisis management law at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

The board will hear an information item regarding the nomination by UMB President Jay Perman, M.D., of Mark Graber, Ph.D., J.D., the Jacob A. France Professor of Constitutionalism at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, as a Regents Professor.

The regents will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students. At the end of the public agenda, the board will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss several items that fall under closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act.

Those items include legislative audit matters that are ongoing and, therefore, confidential; investigative matters that may lead to criminal prosecution; potential adjustment to the USM fiscal year 2018 capital budget to be submitted to the Governor; information about athletic team academic performance indicators and graduation rates that could reveal FERPA-protected information regarding individual students; and an update from legal counsel on the status of an unfair labor practice complaint against an institution. The full agenda, with supporting materials including the closing statement, can be accessed here.

Background information and agendas will be available at the meeting. Sign language interpreters and/or other appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call 301.445.2756 (voice) or 301.314.7683 (TTY/ITT) for special arrangements.
