Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on January 25

Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 23, 2018) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, January 25. The meetings will take place in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (Prince George’s Room, No. 1121) at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

The Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. and vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The reasons for closing are to maintain confidentiality regarding collective bargaining agreements, employment agreements, and individual performance of USM employees. In public session (scheduled for 9:30 a.m.), discussion items include a goal-setting framework and the status of a work plan on executive compensation and governance. The agenda and supporting materials are here.

The Committee on Finance will meet at 10:30 a.m. and take a public vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss an item specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. The reason for closing is to maintain confidentiality of discussions of a potential property acquisition prior to approval by the full Board of Regents.

The public session is scheduled to resume at 10:45 a.m. The committee will vote on the 2017 facilities master plan update for UMCP. It also will vote on several facilities-related matters at various USM institutions and will hear an information update on the USM Strategic Plan. The agenda and supporting materials are here.

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at 12:30 p.m. The featured start-up is Airgility, a designer and manufacturer of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) started by UMCP alumni with UMCP-licensed technology. The committee also will receive briefings on the Business Higher Education Forum Cyber Education & Workforce Study, completed on behalf of the USM, and an update on activities of the USM Office of Economic Development. Immediately following the meeting, UMCP will provide an optional tour of their Fearless Flight Facility. The facility was opened in September 2017 as an outdoor flight laboratory for testing unmanned aircraft systems. The agenda and supporting materials are here.
