A Message from the President
As the Fall semester begins, whether you are a freshman or a Doctoral student, I want to extend my sincere wishes to you, as your Student Council President for the University System of Maryland (USM).
When I was elected in May 2015, I came in with one basic goal: to advocate for the enhancement and advancement of the student voice to the USM Board of Regents and Chancellor. In the months ahead, I can promise each of the nearly 180,000 students in the system that they will have productive and progressive student leaders working on their behalf throughout the State of Maryland. We will be aggressive in our pursuit to ensure that the USM maintains its high prestige and innovation. As students, I believe that we are uniquely well suited to help guide the policy decisions that affect our education. In that respect, know that the student council will be diligent in our work to protect the integrity of our system and the officials who govern it.
To every student at every USM institution, no matter your level of education, I wish you all the best in this academic year. I also want to encourage each of you to be active students throughout your campuses, whether it is through Greek life and intramural sports or through cultural groups and your SGA. As we all know, college is more than just classrooms and textbooks; it is, in fact, the combination of academics and co-curriculars that make college a successful chapter in each of our lives.
Wishing you all the best,
Kennard Alexander Wallace
