Scholarships for First-Year Students

Regents Scholarships and Grants 2022-23

For Maryland Community College Transfer Students

PLEASE NOTE: Application forms for available scholarships are accessible through the links below. Potential applicants should enter their pertinent information directly into the document and save a copy to their personal computer drive once completed. Applications cannot be submitted to the University System of Maryland office through this site.

All student applicants, whether nominated by their institution's Office of the President or self-nominated, should work with their campus's Transfer Services or Scholarship office to coordinate the submission of their application packets. Community College administrators will send application packages directly from their offices to the University System of Maryland scholarship committee via a portal link to be provided to them.

Scholarships that do not Require Application Forms for Award Consideration
winners are selected from among those who apply for the other transfer scholarships.

$5000 Board of Regents Grant
Earn a 3.8 Grade Point Average or higher
Associate degree preferred or a minimum of 56 credits completed
Pursue any major leading to the bachelor's degree at any USM Institution
$4000 Kelly Grant
Earn a 3.8 Grade Point Average or Higher
Complete a minumum of 56 credits
Demonstrate financial need by submitting FAFSA
Pursue any major leading to the bachelor's degree at any USM Institution

Required Documentation:

  • Nomination letter from the community college president; students may self-nominate, but if they do so, the student's application must still go through the campus college scholarship/transfer coordinator.
  • Scholarship application form
  • Personal statement of the student's educational and career goals
  • Official copy of the community college transcript
  • Unofficial transcript copies from all other colleges and universities attended.
  • Resume or listing of the student's extracurricular and community activities
  • Evidence of the student's scholarly and creative activities - limit of two items (can include scanned copies of artwork, photos, creative projects, research papers, published material, honors, awards, etc.)
  • One or two letters of recommendation from faculty or staff members at the community college.
  • Students must submit the FAFSA to be considered for any Regents Scholarship or Grants with the requirement of “Demonstrated financial need.”

Please Note: Preference will be given to Maryland residents during the scholarship selection process coming from the community colleges.
