Board of Regents to Meet at UMUC December 3

The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet in public session on Friday, December 3 at 11 a.m. in the Inn and Conference Center at the University of Maryland University College, at the intersection of University Boulevard and Adelphi Road in College Park, MD.

The meeting will include board action on the following items:

  • A waiver of the residency requirements for in-state tuition rates for employees relocating to the General Motors Allison Transmission Plant in Baltimore County.
  • Systemwide policies on exempt pay and procurement. The new policies are a requirement of Senate Bill 682, the System's governance bill which was signed into law in July.
  • Recommendations of the USM institutions' Boards of Visitors. Each year the Boards are required by law to report on the needs of their respective institutions; the USM-assessed results become the basis for the System's legislative strategy. The recommendations focus on items such as capital improvements, mission statements, and staffing needs.

The Board also will hear reports on minority enrollment and retention, System investment strategies, the status of the USM's institutional agricultural programs, and a number of other subjects. In addition, the Board will recognize the exemplary service of Harry R. Hughes, who served as a Regent from 1995 to July of this year. It will also welcome aboard Nina R. Houghton, who was recently chosen by Gov. Parris Glendening to succeed Gov. Hughes.

Full agenda and background information will be available at the meeting. Sign language interpreters and/or other appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call 301/445-2756 (voice) or 301/314-7683 (TTY/ITT) to make special arrangements.
