Education Policy Committee Agenda Includes USM Teacher Education and K-16 Initiatives

ADELPHI, Md. (September 20, 2006) - Teacher education and K-16 (kindergarten through college) initiatives are among the discussion topics at the upcoming meeting of the Committee on Education Policy of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am Tuesday, September 26, at University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in Adelphi. It will be in Room 1105 of UMUC's Inn and Conference Center at the intersection of Adelphi Road and University Boulevard.

The information/discussion items include:

  • Waiver of certain residency requirements for relocating civilian employees of the U.S. Armed Forces under BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure Commission) 2005;
  • K-16 Update, including USM grant-funded partnerships and the state's K-16 Leadership Council;
  • Status Report on Teacher Education in the USM;
  • USM Report on Transfer Students: Patterns of Enrollment and Success.

In addition, the committee will consider a proposal for a master of real estate development program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
