USM Board of Regents to Meet November 1

Adelphi, Md. (Oct. 30, 2013) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will hear an information item regarding an agreement with the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (SMHEC) and vote on contract items recently approved by the Regents Committee on Finance.

The public session of the meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, November 1 at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory/Bernie Fowler Lab Conference Room (Rm. 1101) at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) in Solomons, MD. The facility is located at 142 Williams Street in Solomons, MD.

During the 2013 legislative session of the Maryland General Assembly, $1.5 million in planning funds was provided to the USM to plan a USM building on the SMHEC campus. The board will hear an information item on an agreement reached to meet requirements allowing for release of those planning funds.

Action items before the board include renovations to facilities at Towson University and a contract for renewal of scientific supplies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The regents also will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students.

U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer will offer brief remarks at the end of the public session, before a signing ceremony on an agreement to construct a USM building at the SMHEC.
