USM Board of Regents Meets April 11

Adelphi, Md. (April 9, 2014) -- The University System of Maryland Board of Regents at its next meeting will present Regents Awards to faculty members and consider several action items, including new academic programs and self-support charges/fees  at USM institutions for fiscal year (FY) 2015.

The public meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 11, in the Albin O. Kuhn Library, open area of the 7th floor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), located at 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD.

The Regents Awards are the highest honor presented by the Board of Regents to exemplary faculty members. The awards honor excellence in the following five categories: teaching; research; public service; mentoring; and innovative excellence. The board will have a breakfast reception for the individual honorees before the public meeting, and the group will then be recognized at the public meeting.

The board will hear a presentation on cybersecurity from Lawrence Gordon, the EY Alumni Professor of Managerial Accounting and Information Assurance at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The academic programs under consideration are a M.S. in nursing at Frostburg State University and several graduate degree programs at the University of Maryland, College Park, including a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership.

In addition to voting on self-support charges and fees at USM institutions for FY 2015, the board will vote on renewal of a food services contract at UMBC and a ground lease pertaining to service of a Verizon Wireless cell tower at Frostburg State University.

 The regents will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students. The full agenda, with supporting materials, can be accessed here.

The board will vote at the end of its public agenda on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss personnel, legal, property acquisition, procurement, and administrative items that fall under the closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act.
