USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development to Meet November 19

Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 17, 2015) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Finance will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 19 and will consider several action items, including a system-wide contract renewal for scientific supplies.

The meeting will take place in the President's Board Room, 14th floor of the Saratoga Office Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The building is located at 220 North Arch Street in Baltimore, Md.

The committee also will vote on a minor revision to the Board of Regents policy on payment of moving expenses (allowing institutions to determine moving expense limitations, while maintaining compliance with IRS reporting guidelines), and a deed transfer to the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences (UMCES). The committee also will hear information items, including fiscal year 2015 draft financial statements. The agenda and supporting materials can be found here.

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at the same location at noon and vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would discuss a pending request for proposal (RFP) to re-bid the contract to operate the National Cancer Institute's federally funded research and development center (FFRDC).

In public session, the committee will hear three information items: featured start-up Martek Biosciences Corporation; early stage investment fund opportunities; and entrepreneurship programs and initiatives via the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech). Martek Biosciences, a leader in the innovation, development, production and sale of products from microbial sources that promote health and wellness through nutrition, launched after leveraging several of Mtech's entrepreneurial programs and was subsequently acquired by the Dutch company Royal DSM NV. The agenda and supporting materials can be found here.

Sign language interpreters and/or other appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call 301.445.2756 (voice) or 301.314.7683 (TTY/ITT) for special arrangements.
