USM Launches Redesigned Website

Adelphi, Md. (December 21, 2015) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) unveiled its redesigned website today. The site has the same URL as its predecessor, www.usmd.edu, but features improved navigation, graphics, and a host of new functionalities, including an improved search and social media integration.

"We are excited about the launch of our redesigned site," said Anne Moultrie, vice chancellor for communications. "It's fresh, innovative, and easy to navigate for new and past site visitors alike. It clearly communicates what USM is and what it does, and provides ready access to information about USM's strategic priorities."

The redesign of USM's website began in May 2014 with a survey of USM Office (USMO) staff and key external stakeholders, including media, government officials, and members of the business community. The survey results indicated the need for improved navigation, enhanced searchability, and a more contemporary aesthetic design.

Moultrie formed a web enhancement committee in June 2015 to address these needs. Comprising representatives from each USMO department and co-chaired by Jennifer Rose, USM's public relations specialist, and Mike Lurie, USM's web and media relations manager, the committee worked with USM's IT Systems Analyst Marcus Harrington to develop the site's new design.

Key features of the redesigned website include fly-out navigation menus, a Google-based search function, social media integration, and full-width images from USM's 12 institutions and two regional centers. The site, which is fully mobile responsive, also provides a more robust homepage, newsroom, and contact page.
