USM Board of Regents Meets February 12

Adelphi, Md. (Feb. 10, 2016) -- The University System of Maryland Board of Regents at its next meeting will hear an educational forum, "Diversity and Inclusion: Faculty and the Frontline," and vote on proposed revisions to USM procurement policies recently approved by the Committee on Finance.

The public meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 12 in the open area of the 7th floor library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), located at 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD.

The educational forum on diversity and inclusion will be led by provosts from four USM institutions: Diane Allen (Salisbury University); Weldon Jackson (Bowie State University); Philip Rous (UMBC); and Mary Ann Rankin (UMCP).

The revisions to procurement procedures reflect a comprehensive review aimed at providing a procurement process of quality, broad-based competition, and uniformity.

Information items before the board include brief summaries of the USM extramural funding report and the year-to-date fundraising report. The regents also will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students.

The board will vote at the end of its public agenda on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items that fall under the closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act. These items include performance reviews of two presidents; real property acquisitions in the City of College Park; a briefing on legislative audit matters that are ongoing and, therefore, confidential; and recommendations for Regents' Faculty Awards and nominations for honorary degrees. The full agenda, with supporting materials including the Reconvene to Closed Session statement, can be accessed here.

Sign language interpreters and/or appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call 301.445.1901 (voice) or 301.314.7683 (TTY/ITT) to make special arrangements.
