USM Board of Regents Meets April 15
Meeting
to Include Presentation of Regents Faculty Awards, Vote on Tuition Rates
Adelphi, Md. (April
13, 2016) -- The University System
of Maryland Board of Regents at its next meeting will present Regents Awards to
faculty members and vote on proposed tuition rates for the 2016-17 academic
year.
The public meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 15 in
the Potomac Ballroom, Salon 2, of the University of Maryland University College
(UMUC) Inn and Conference Center, 3501 University Blvd. East, Adelphi, MD.
The Regents Awards are the highest honor presented by the
Board of Regents to exemplary faculty members. The awards honor excellence in
four categories: teaching, public service, mentoring, and
research/scholarship/creative activity. (During a social reception before the
public meeting, the board will honor each winner individually. The group then
will be recognized collectively before the general public.)
The proposed fiscal year 2017 in-state undergraduate tuition
rates will not increase by more than 2 percent. The proposed increase for
out-of-state undergraduate full-time rates is generally no more than 3 percent.
The board also will hear reports from the councils of university system
presidents, faculty, staff and students.
The board will vote at the end of its public agenda on
whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items that fall under the
closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act. These items include performance
reviews of two presidents; discussion of investigative matters that may lead to
criminal prosecution; a briefing of regents on logistical issues relating to
the USM office relocation; and advice from counsel regarding interpretation of
provisions of Senate Bill 1052. The full agenda, with supporting materials
including the Reconvene to Closed Session statement, can be accessed here.
Sign language interpreters and/or
appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be
provided upon request. Please call 301.445.1901 (voice) or 301.314.7683
