Bowie State University Presidential Search and Screening Committee to Hold Public Meeting December 5
Adelphi, MD (Nov. 28, 2016)--The Search and Screening Committee for the Bowie
State University (BSU) president is holding a public meeting Monday, December
5, to hear comments from individuals interested in the search. The meeting is
scheduled from 2 to 4 pm and will be in the Student Center Theater on the BSU
campus.
BSU President Mickey Burnim announced in September that he will step
down on June 30, 2017. University System of Maryland (USM) Chancellor Robert L.
Caret appointed the search and screening committee earlier this month, naming
USM Regent Linda Gooden as chair.
Facilitating the public meeting will be a representative from Greenwood-Asher
and Associates, the search firm retained as consultant to the committee. Individuals
interested in speaking are asked to focus their comments on two questions:
-
In terms of the
Bowie State University culture, what backgrounds and experiences of the next
president would suggest this person would be a good match for the
institution?
-
During the next three
to five years, what must the new president do to be successful?
To allow as many people to speak as possible within the scheduled two
hours, each speaker will have a maximum of three minutes to deliver their
remarks. Anyone interested in speaking should send a request to: BSUSearch@usmd.edu. Speakers who have additional comments to share with
the committee and others who are unable to participate in the meeting but would
like to respond to the two questions can submit written comments to the same
email address.
