USM Board of Regents Meets April 19

Meeting to Include Presentation of Regents Faculty Awards

Baltimore, Md. (April 17, 2019) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will present Regents Awards to faculty members and hold an educational forum. The public session begins at 9 a.m. Friday, April 19. The meeting will take place in Ballroom A of the SMC Campus Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).  The address is 621 W. Lombard Street, Baltimore, Md.

The Regents Awards are the highest honor presented by the Board of Regents to exemplary faculty members. The awards honor excellence in several categories. (During a special breakfast reception before the public session, the board will honor each winner individually. The chair will recognize the group collectively during the meeting.)

During the educational forum, Association of Governing Boards (AGB) President Rick Legon will present a USM board governance assessment. The board will vote on new academic program proposals from several USM institutions and hear informational updates from standing committees. The board also will vote on proposed tuition rates for 2019-20, which would not increase by more than 2% for in-state undergraduate full-time and part-time students.

The regents will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students.

At the end of the public meeting, the board will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items that fall under categories exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. These items include various personnel and administrative matters, acquisition of real property, and legal matters. Agendas and supporting materials for Board of Regents meetings are here.
