USM Board of Regents Meets December 20

Baltimore, Md. (Dec. 18, 2019) – The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Friday, December 20. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. and takes place in the Stamp Student Union Building (Atrium, Room 1101) at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

The board will hear an information session, “Maryland’s Open Meetings Act: Updates and Some Common Pitfalls,” presented by Ann MacNeille, assistant attorney general and counsel to the Open Meetings Compliance Board.

Action items before the board include 2019 facilities master plan for the Universities at Shady Grove, several new academic programs, the NextGen Energy Systems Program at UMCP, and an exterior maintenance project for the Bressler Research Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

The regents will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students.

To conclude the public session, the board will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. These items include various personnel matters, acquisition of real property, collective bargaining negotiations, fiscal year 2021 budget information for a USM institution, and honorary naming requests.
