Edelstein to Remain at Helm of Universities at Shady Grove Through Sept. 30

Baltimore, Md. (May 20, 2020) – University System of Maryland (USM) Chancellor Jay A. Perman and USM Board of Regents Chair Linda Gooden today announced that Dr. Stewart Edelstein, executive director of the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) and USM associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, has agreed to serve in his current position at USG through September 30, 2020, while the search for a new executive director continues. Dr. Edelstein’s existing contract would otherwise have expired on June 30.

Chair Gooden noted that the USM is fortunate to have someone at the helm of USG who knows the regional center as well as Dr. Edelstein does, and who understands its needs—now and moving forward. “The University System has come to rely on Stew’s leadership of this important center,” Gooden said. “And especially now, as we confront the challenges and uncertainties of COVID-19, we need the continuity in leadership he provides.”

Chancellor Perman added, “The USM’s presidents and regional center directors have only strengthened their communication and collaboration as we confront this pandemic together. I thank Stew for agreeing to remain a part of this exceptional group a few months longer as we prepare for the transition to a new executive director.”
